About The Artist
Simar Hundal, a distinguished dentist in Nova Scotia is known for her unwavering dedication to her patients across multiple clinics. Yet, beyond professional clinical expertise lies a narrative of deep personal transformation.
She grew up valuing resilience and an appreciation for life’s fleeting moments instilling a keen sense of empathy that reflects in her being. However, an unimaginable tragedy redirected her life’s journey, unveiling a hidden artist within.
The day she lost her only child, her son, who was about to turn18, in a sudden motorcycle accident, her world shattered. The vibrant hues of her life dulled into a monochrome existence. Numbness enveloped her, stripping away her ability to feel or find beauty in the world. The sun’s warmth, the moon’s glow, the delicate bloom of flowers — all seemed to vanish from Simar’s life.
Her deep grief, turned to oil painting. She began as a tentative attempt to collect her scattered self, regain focus and emerge from sorrow, but soon, it blossomed into a profound journey of self-discovery and healing. As a self-taught artist, she poured her soul onto the canvas and let her pain be her only alliance — each brushstroke, each colour, was a step toward reclaiming her soul, a new welcome to life.
American writer Cormac McCarthy once said, “Creative work is often driven by pain” — this turned out to be true for Simar. Her paintings reflect a kaleidoscope of colours, predominantly featuring flowers, nature, and scenes that open the doors of serendipity.
Simar’s art is a message of hope, illustrating how creativity can mend a shattered spirit and rekindle the ability to find beauty in life once more — it symbolizes the journey from despair to hope, from darkness to light. Her creative venture is a visual delight and a poignant narrative of loss and recovery — touching the souls of all who resonate with her.
